The book begins with recollections of the the 1937 Ohio River Flood and moves on to describe the formation and struggles of a large family.World War II dominates life especially when the father goes into the navy and survives the sinking of his ship. The Author serves two years in the navy, starts a family and begins a forty year career in electric power.
