Rhiannon GarthJones is a journalist and historian, currently finishing a PhD on the Muslim visual language of power and relationship with Rome during the "Golden Age" of Islam (762-861 CE). It demonstrates the limitations of an East/West civilisational binary and the argument that early Islam was fundamentally opposed to Rome and Christianity. Her work also considers ideas of power, heritage, and audiences. Previously, she has studied Classics, with a focus on Roman history (BA, Oxford) and the Religious Roots of Europe, with a focus on the emergence of religions from the Roman empire (MA, Copenhagen).
