Zusammenfassung

From Babel to AI: Idolatry, Transhumanism, and the Crisis of Imago Dei confronts the profound questions of human identity and purpose in an age dominated by technological innovation. Drawing from biblical narratives like the Tower of Babel, this thought-provoking work explores how artificial intelligence, transhumanism, and other modern advancements echo ancient struggles with idolatry and hubris. At its core, this book calls readers to rediscover the doctrine of the imago Dei--the belief that humanity is created in the image of God--as the foundation for addressing the ethical and theological challenges of our time. Through compelling analysis and case studies, it unpacks the dangers of dehumanizing technologies and offers a robust theological framework for engaging them while safeguarding human dignity and relationality. Whether readers are a scholar, church leader, or thoughtful believer wrestling with the implications of AI and transhumanism, From Babel to AI will inspire all to think deeply, act faithfully, and reclaim humanity's divine purpose in a rapidly changing world.

Dr. Dawn Lewis Sutherland is an award-winning author, scholar, speaker, and educator specializing in Old Testament and Ancient Near Eastern studies, theological anthropology, and philosophy. She holds a Ph.D. with high distinction in Bible Exposition and serves as Adjunct Faculty in the John W. Rawlings School of Divinity at Liberty University. Her work bridges the study of ancient texts and cultures with contemporary theological, philosophical, and ethical concerns.

Committed to fostering a biblical vision of equality, Dr. Sutherland equips others with deep scriptural insight, encourages critical engagement with the Bible, and advocates for expanded leadership roles within the church and academy. Her teaching and writing emphasize faithful interpretation of Scripture and the affirmation of every person's inherent dignity and worth.

She is the author of From Babel to AI: Idolatry, Transhumanism, and the Crisis of Imago Dei (Wipf and Stock, 2025), which explores the theological and ethical challenges posed by modern technologies and their implications for human identity and divine purpose. Her research engages creation theology, biblical anthropology, and the ongoing relevance of Scripture in addressing contemporary cultural dilemmas.

Passionate about equipping others to think theologically, Dr. Sutherland contributes to both academic and faith-based conversations, offering thoughtful insights that connect the ancient world to modern contexts with clarity, conviction, and depth.
