Hochwertiges Foto- wie Architekturbuch in einem: Das Deutschlandhaus der Architekten Fritz Block und Ernst Hochfeld von 1929 war Hamburgs erstes Geschäftshaus im Stil der internationalen Moderne. Ungeachtet seiner früheren Bedeutung wurde es ab 2019 abgerissen und bis 2024 durch einen Neubau ersetzt, der als moderne Interpretation des Originals gilt und im Inneren ein imposantes Palmen- Atrium aufweist.Klaus Frahm, einer der bekanntesten deutschen Architekturfotografen, hat das neue Deutschlandhaus 2024 auf hohem Niveau porträtiert. Denn seine Aufnahmen bilden die Architektur von Hadi Teherani Architects nicht bloß ab, sondern machen deren Formensprache sichtbar - schwarzweiß und in Farbe. Demgegenüber zeigen die historischen Fotos, die der damalige Architekt Fritz Block 1930 gemacht hat, das ursprüngliche Deutschlandhaus. Eine Dokumentation zur Geschichte des Gebäudes, in dem sich damals auch das größte Kino Europas befand, rundet diese beispielhafte Bildmonografie ab.
A fascinating book featuring both photographymand architecture: the Deutschlandhaus, designed by Fritz Block and Ernst Hochfeld in 1929, was Hamburgs first commercial building in the International Style. Despite its historical significance, it was demolished in 2019. By 2024 it had been replaced by a new structure, considered a modern interpretation of the original and featuring an impressive atrium inside. Klaus Frahm, one of Germanys best-known architectural photographers, has created a stunning portrait of the new Deutschlandhaus. His images not only capture Hadi Teheranis architecture, but also make its formal language visible both in colour and in black and white. These images are juxtaposed with historical photos taken in 1930 by the architect Fritz Block, showing the original Deutschlandhaus. Documentation on the history of the building, which at the time also housed the largest cinema in Europe, rounds off this exemplary monograph.
