Thomas à Kempis  was a German-Dutch canon regular and spiritual writer, best known as the author of The Imitation of Christ, one of the most influential works in Christian devotional literature. Born in Kempen, in the Holy Roman Empire, Thomas is associated with the Devotio Moderna movement, which emphasized personal piety, humility, and the inner spiritual life over scholastic debate.
