Dr. Orlando David Garcia is a Cuban Canadian medical doctor and neurologist who researched coma and brain death. In 1992, while working at the Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery in Havana, Cuba, he received the National Prize for the Best Scientific Work of the Year for a study titled Heart Rate Variability in Coma and Brain Death. He then published papers proposing a unifying formulation of human death-an approach now further developed and refined in this book through the Brain Metafunction Framework and its broader implications. Dr. Garcia also received training in bioethics through the Bioethics Group of Galicia in Spain.
