Dieter Gartelmann lives by himself in Adelaide, Australia. He was born in Bremen, Germany. His family migrated to Australia in 1953. He is the author of two previous books, Destiny Cottage and Pandemic. His love of books started in post-war Germany at age 12, when he was given a book about a boy going to school in Australia, riding a horse to schoool, with a rifle slung over his shoulder for shooting snakes. Of course, he wanted to come to Australia. That book had been cleverly given to him a month before sailing to Australia.
