Emily Brontë was an English writer and poet, the author of the novel Wuthering Heights. The middle of the three Brontë sisters, Wuthering Heights is the central work of her oeuvre, published a year before her death. The first edition of the novel went virtually unnoticed. It was only when Charlotte Brontë insisted on a republication after her sister's death that the book was hailed as a masterpiece by both critics and the public.
