AWARD-WINNING NOVEL
Existential weird fiction dramedy.
He unconsciously stepped out to the balcony and gazed at the Rue de Maupassant that spread vertically on Rue de Moliere. From the third floor's balcony he could discern the distance of Rue de Maupassant with its bushy acacias and the bustling cafes. Many of the passers-by walked on the pavements holding umbrellas because of the day's sprinkle. The atmosphere of the Deux Canaris district had now become so stifling that you could cut the prevailing humidity with a pair of scissors. Phillippe's car crossed the first three blocks of Rue de Maupassant and then turned right to the Rue de Gauguin.
The noises of the kitchen made a comeback. By the oil's sizzle on the hot frying pan Gérard couldn't but deduce that father fried his favorite fish sticks. Every time father cooked fish sticks, the kitchen surrendered to an indescribable mess of grime and flecks the cleaning up of which rested as always exclusively upon Gérard's shoulders.
Approaching the kitchen he saw father standing above the frying pan with a wooden spoon in his hand. He was dressed in his customary chintzy pajamas and on his feet he wore the hideous slippers of Taiwanese origin that bore Donald Duck's figure stamped on them. He had already managed to turn the kitchen into a pigsty. Gérard's lips grinned as if by their own will.
"The irony is that if your death proved to be a well-played prank at my expense, I'd be so enraged that I'd wish you were really dead."
"What do you mean by that?"
"Nothing. We've just got your funeral over with and we said the last prayers. Common sense dictates that right this moment you should be in your grave embracing natural decay."
"Ah! Yes, I know."
"Is that all you've got to say?"
"I'm frying fish sticks. Are you hungry?"
"Gérard & the father" received two awards:
1) The First Literature Award from the Panhellenic Association of Writers in 2018.
2) The First Literature Award at the 8th International Literature Contest held by E.P.O.C. (Hellenic Culture Association of Cyprus) under the aegis of UNESCO.
