Zusammenfassung

Years have passed since the Dune Dragons' last adventure. In that time, Chryllis and Jilly have matured, and Zuzu is now an irrepressible teenager. The book opens with a cherry-pit-spitting contest. When it's her turn, Zuzu shows off by pit-spitting with dragon breath, never imagining that her actions will have serious consequences. Later, when the young Dras happen upon an injured fairy, they are horrified to discover her wing pierced by one of Zuza's molten cherry pits and that she cannot fly. The Dune Dragons are peace-loving creatures, and Dra law demands the culprits make amends. Winter is just around the corner, and the young Dras decide they must transport the fairy to a warmer climate where she might better recuperate. Serendipitously, the Dragflies are about to embark on their annual migration south, and the dragons invite themselves along for the journey. Accompanying them are several of their woodland friends and the injured fairy's cousin and older sister. Winging their way south, the travelers narrowly escape many harrowing close calls. At one point, they are blown off course, necessitating a stop in Cahokia, the Mecca of the Plains. There, they help vanquish the hideous Two-Face zombies of ancient Native American lore. This feat endears them to the Cahokians, who honor them at an elaborate feast. It is a memorable evening of reveling, storytelling, and magic tricks. Before the night is over, the wind shifts and, once again, the dragons and their traveling companions must take to the skies and hitch a ride on a thermal draft. This madcap expedition ends on the southeastern tip of the continent where the tropics begin. When two friendly bottlenose dolphins smile and whistle a welcoming greeting, the weary voyagers know a new and exciting adventure awaits them.

Award-winning author Gretchen Rose writes across many genres. Touching upon universal themes, her books are not only humorous but poignant and uplifting. A longstanding member of the Conservation Society of San Antonio, Gretchen is passionate about preserving the architectural and cultural heritage of that beautiful city. This book is her contribution to that end. She and her partner, Dr. Mel Laracey, split their time between Texas and Empire, Michigan.
