Aria is excited for her first day back at school since her accident, but also worried. It will be hard for her to think about learning when her new prosthetic “helper-leg” will make it uncomfortable to sit on the hard floor. Before the war in Afghanistan, schools like hers had benches for students to sit at, which makes Aria wonder. If she had a bench to sit at, learning would feel much more comfortable for her. Aria knows what to do. She’ll simply have to build a bench of her own. Honor winner of the 2022 ALA Schneider Family Book Award, A Sky-Blue Bench reminds readers that nothing can stop resiliency, determination, and strength.
