Rwanda, 1994. In a country consumed by violence, a journey can become a death sentence. And an enemy can become the only person you can trust.
Thirty-four-year-old Erik Doventry has traveled from the United States to Rwanda, driven by a desire to discover a distant and unfamiliar land. But when his journey is brutally interrupted by an ambush, everything he thought he knew disappears. His guide is killed, and Erik falls into the hands of a small armed group. A foreigner, alone and unable to fully understand what is happening around him, he becomes a prisoner in a country descending into chaos.
Among the men assigned to guard him is Amani, a powerful, imposing, and silent Rwandan who appears as hardened as the others but cannot completely hide an unexpected humanity. Slowly, something difficult to explain begins to grow between the American prisoner and his guard: first curiosity, then trust, and finally an attraction neither man can ignore.
When a secret about Erik's private life is discovered and he is sentenced to death, Amani must make a choice that will change both of their lives forever.
Betray the men he has fought beside?or allow Erik to die.
The decision comes in the middle of the night.
And so begins a desperate escape through the forests of Rwanda. Hunted by armed men, forced into hiding, hungry and uncertain of what lies ahead, Erik and Amani have no one to rely on but each other. With every mile they travel together, another barrier falls away, as fear slowly gives way to tenderness and the need to survive becomes something far deeper.
Their journey eventually leads them to Amani's home village, where Erik discovers a world he never expected to find and, more importantly, begins to understand that freedom may not necessarily mean returning to the place he came from.
Filled with danger, escape, passion, and hope, Prisoner in Rwanda is an MM romance about two men from vastly different worlds who meet at the darkest moment of their lives?and discover that even when everything seems lost, love can still reveal a path toward the future.
For Erik, the escape must eventually come to an end.
But the story of Erik and Amani is only beginning.
