Zusammenfassung

By the mid-1990s, it became clear that the Internet would drastically transform people and cultures. The effect would be total and not limited to a few high-tech nerds. At some point a technology becomes ecological, as Neil Postman pointed out-it shapes our whole way of being. Written against this backdrop, The Soul in Cyberspace gave the first evangelical critique of the Internet. The book's goal was to help readers to avoid worldliness in adapting technologies that can erode our sense of objective truth, rational argument, and the reality of the living God, and to use this entrancing technology wisely. Thirty years later, The Soul in Digital Space republishes the original text, which has proved surprisingly prescient and overwhelmingly vindicated in its warnings. It features a new introduction and new annotations that bring it up to date. The original text is all here, but it includes also the author's current reflections. This new edition encourages readers to be discerning in how they engage the digital world, which has become far more intrusive, enticing, deceptive, and addictive than it was in 1997.

"Douglas Groothuis has done more than most philosophers in the past three decades to bring real wisdom into people's lives."

Thomas V. Morris, former professor of philosophy, University of Notre Dame

"Doug Groothuis is one of the ablest apologists speaking and writing today. Brilliant but humble, knowledgeable and experienced but practical, Doug has a heart for the Gospel and an ear for contemporary people and issues."

Os Guinness, social critic and founder of the Trinity Forum

"Dr. Groothuis' academic scholarship, teaching and mentoring, publishing and service achievements in advancing apologetics and Christian worldview are extraordinary. He is an exemplary Christian public intellectual and scholar."

Gerson Moreno-Riaño, PhD, President, Cornerstone University
