THROUGH THE EYES OF A SOLDIER
Sam is a 34-year-old father, a postal worker in his civilian life, and a former conscript. In the opening days of the full-scale invasion, he steps up to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Yesterday, his life was ordinary. Today, his battalion is deployment-bound for the East, where war swiftly erases the line between paralyzing fear and the raw necessity to act.
The frontline becomes Sam's school of survival. Brutal combat, shelling, wounds, evacuations, and the loss of brothers-in-arms force him to grow up faster than peace would ever demand. Yet, alongside the enemy in the trenches, another, equally painful conflict emerges: a soldier's clash with injustice, indifference, and commanding decisions paid for not with words, but with blood.
For the blind to see, the seeing must lay down their lives...
Despite the terror and his wounds, Sam returns to the trenches. Because his brothers are still there, and back home is the family he must endure for.
Through the Eyes of a Soldier is a work of autofiction by two brothers-in-arms. It is war stripped bare: the story of a man learning to be a soldier, of brotherhood, loss, and pain, of the cost of decisions, and the resilience of those who keep fighting?even when the hardest part is simply remaining human.
